Causes
There are a few reasons a toilet could keep clogging, some of the most common reasons that people’s clients keeping clogging:
- Someone flushed something wrong. A toilet is meant for only toilet paper to be flushed. Anything else can clog. Some people put sanitary napkins, Q-tips, or children’s wipes down the toilet which is a common mistake because it doesn’t break down like paper does. Children oftentimes think of toilets as a trashcan. If you are putting anything other than human waste or toilet paper in a toilet – Stop!!
- Something is wrong with how the toilet is set up. One wrong hose or pipe set up can cause water to get backed up and drain slowly which is most likely an easy fix by a plumber.
- Something is trapped in the S-tube if someone has flushed something down that isn’t supposed to be, this could be trapped in the s-tube which is the tube that goes from the toilet into the wall.
- Your sewer line can be messed up. This could be caused by multiple things, like new construction, a tree’s roots getting into the pipes, which could be a hazard to both the interior and exterior of your toilet.
What to do
First thing is to make sure you (or others in your home) aren’t flushing anything that shouldn’t be flushed. Then you can check to make sure something isn’t lodged into your pipes if you feel comfortable taking apart your toilet. You can always call a professional who is experienced with these sorts of issues if you are unsure.
Steps to take to prevent your toilet from clogging
In general, it is normal for your toilet to clog every once in awhile, and be easily fixed with a plunger. When that isn’t enough it’s recommended to consult an expert so that you are not making the problem worse.
