A grease trap or a grease interceptor is a plumbing device and system that is designed to catch and prevent any oils or grease build up in your plumbing. The kitchen wastewater will flow through this before it goes into the sewer system.
How Does a Grease Trap Work?
Since grease is less dense than water, it doesn’t mix with water, which leads the grease to float on top of the water. As water flows through a grease trap, the grease will be caught with a baffle. A baffle is a plastic wall that helps control how fast the water flows through the trap, it will also help to clean the water that is in the trap. The trap will fill from the top down and the water without the grease will exit the trap into the sewer system.
A grease trap can either be installed above ground or in the ground and there are different sizes depending on their usage demands and future usage demands. Grease traps need to be cleaned properly
Do I Need a Grease Trap?
Grease traps are necessary for commercial kitchens and are normally regulated by law because they cook a lot of food which in turn produces a lot of grease.
