A lot of people don’t realize that some of our shower habits can actually cause damage to our plumbing. It is important to be more aware of these habits so that you don’t cause unwanted plumbing issues. Here is a list of bad shower habits that we advise you to change so that you don’t run into an inconvenient plumbing issue that could have been avoided.
Leaving Hair Down the Drain
Blockage in your pipes from any material is something that can cause serious plumbing issues. In this case, hair is usually what gets stuck in your pipes during your shower. A buildup of hair is not ideal as it will cause your drain to run slowly and then eventually it can completely block the drain. A way to prevent this is to purchase a drain cover so that your hair does not get into the drain. At the end of your shower, you can collect the hair and throw it away.
Leaving Water on the Floor
Although some may think this is obvious, you would be surprised at how many people actually let water stay on their bathroom floor. After your shower, double-check the floor to make sure there is no excess water on the floor. Leaving water on your floor can cause a lot of damage. This damage will include destroying grout, warping the floor and linoleum, and causing mold to grow in your bathroom.
Ignoring Hard Water Build Up
Hard water can cause irritation to our hair and skin because of the dry and flaky substances that build upon the showerhead. The dry and flaky substances are the residue left over from the hard water. Don’t ignore the residue, clean your shower head with shampoo every so often so that the water will flow easily and prevent blockage.
A Long, Hot Shower
Although many people enjoy therapeutic, long hot showers they are not necessarily great for your bathroom. Long, hot showers cause mold to grow in your shower and bathroom. To avoid this, use proper ventilation, open a door or window in the bathroom, run the bathroom fan, and limit the time of your showers.
